{"id":25,"date":"2026-05-19T17:40:46","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T17:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=25"},"modified":"2026-05-19T17:40:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T17:40:46","slug":"israel-sues-nyt-over-kristof-column-that-alleged-widespread-rape-of-palestinian-prisoners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=25","title":{"rendered":"Israel Sues <I>NYT<\/I> over Kristof Column That Alleged Widespread Rape of Palestinian Prisoners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Israeli government is suing the\u00a0<em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em>over columnist Nicholas Kristof\u2019s thinly sourced report accusing Israeli soldiers and prison guards of using rape and other forms of sexual violence against Palestinian prisoners as part of an \u201corganized state policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=23\">Trump Endorses Paxton over Cornyn in Texas U.S. Senate Race<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kristof\u2019s column, which goes so far as to accuse Israeli soldiers of using trained dogs to rape Palestinian prisoners, cites a number of obviously biased organizations and individuals whose accounts are not backed by documentation or supporting eyewitness accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the publication by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times of one of the most hideous and distorted lies ever published against the State of Israel in the modern press, which also received the backing of the newspaper, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar have instructed the initiation of a defamation lawsuit against The New York Times,\u201d Israel\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The column cites 14 individuals who claim to have been raped or otherwise sexually assaulted by Israeli settlers or members of the security forces, only a few of whom agreed to be named. Of the named sources, several have changed their accounts over time and at least one has a history of promoting Hamas terror. The column also relies heavily on claims made by human rights watchdogs such as Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, a group with close ties to Hamas and a history of gross and unsubstantiated claims against Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Times<\/em> released a statement Thursday evening, following the morning announcement from the Israeli government touting the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Israeli Prime Minister has threatened to file a libel lawsuit against The New York Times regarding Nicholas Kristof\u2019s deeply reported opinion column on sexual abuse by Israel\u2019s prison guards, soldiers, settlers, and interrogators,\u201d Danielle Rhoades Ha, senior vice president of communications at the <em>Times<\/em>, said in a statement. \u201cThis threat, similar to one made last year, is part of a well-worn political playbook that aims to undermine independent reporting and stifle journalism that does not fit a specific narrative. Any such legal claim would be without merit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rhoades Ha notes Kristof details the stories of sexual assault against Israeli women during the Hamas-led October 7 terrorist attacks, as well as the accounts from the 14 individuals who brought rape and sexual assault allegations against the Israelis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick has covered sexual violence for decades, and is widely regarded as one of the world\u2019s best on-the-ground journalists in documenting and bearing witness to sexual abuse experienced by women and men in war and conflict zones,\u201d Rhoades Ha said.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Times<\/em> has stood by Kristof throughout the entire saga, saying in a Wednesday evening statement that his column is based \u201con-the-record accounts and cites several analyses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=21\">Fairfax Prosecutor Struggles to Defend Lax Treatment of Illegal Immigrants in Heated Hearing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe accounts of the 14 men and women he interviewed were corroborated with other witnesses, whenever possible, and with people the victims confided in \u2014 that includes family members and lawyers,\u201d Charlie Stadtlander, a spokesperson for the <em>Times<\/em>, said in a statement. \u201cDetails were extensively fact-checked, with accounts further cross-referenced with news reporting, independent research from human rights groups, surveys and in one case, with U.N. testimony. Independent experts were consulted on the assertions in the piece and throughout reporting and fact-checking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the baseless claims from Euro-Med include accusations Israel stole organs from the bodies of dead Palestinians, that Israeli soldiers executed patients at al-Shifa Hospital, and, as noted in Kristof\u2019s article, that Israel trains dogs to rape its prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Canine behavior expert Michael S. Gould previously told <span>National Review<\/span> the idea that dogs could be trained to rape people is \u201cabsurd,\u201d explaining dogs do not have the instincts nor the trainability to commit such an act.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the scandal, the <em>Times<\/em> has vigorously defended Kristof and denied speculation that the paper\u2019s masthead is considering retracting the column, saying \u201cthere is no truth to this at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kristof has similarly defended his reporting, posting on X, \u201cTo those who say that canine rape is impossible, despite the many Palestinians who have described it, I\u2019d note that at least three different medical journal articles discuss rectal injuries in humans from anal penetration by dogs.
