{"id":148,"date":"2026-06-10T16:07:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T16:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=148"},"modified":"2026-06-10T16:07:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T16:07:10","slug":"texas-teen-karmelo-anthony-sentenced-to-35-years-in-prison-for-fatal-track-meet-stabbing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=148","title":{"rendered":"Texas Teen Karmelo Anthony Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Fatal Track Meet Stabbing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>A Texas jury sentenced Karmelo Anthony to 35 years in prison on Tuesday after finding him guilty of murdering fellow track competitor Austin Metcalf at a meet last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=146\">Teachers\u2019 Unions Spent Billions of Dollars in Membership Dues on Exorbitant Employee Salaries<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The two teenagers, who attended different high schools, were\u00a0<\/span><span>at a track meet in April 2025 when Anthony stepped into Metcalf\u2019s tent and an argument and physical confrontation ensued between\u00a0<\/span><span>Anthony, Metcalf and Metcalf\u2019s twin brother, Hunter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Anthony pulled a knife out of his backpack and stabbed Austin once in the chest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Anthony surrendered himself to police in hysterics and admitted to the crime, but questioned if his\u00a0<\/span><span>actions constituted self-defense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The jury found Anthony guilty of murder after a multi-day trial that recorded testimony from fellow students, bystanders and law enforcement agents. Jurors ultimately rejected Anthony\u2019s <\/span><span>\u201csudden passion\u201d claim, which would have reduced his sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The case has drawn national attention for more than a year, mostly due to the two teenagers\u2019 races. <\/span><span>Supporters of Anthony, who is black, alleged that the trial was biased, citing the fact that there were no black jurors. <\/span><span>Prosecutors and the defense attorneys removed some jurors before the trial who were thought to have previously formed opinions about the trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanhousingtransition.com\/?p=144\">Republican Steve Hilton Will Take On Xavier Becerra in California Gubernatorial Race<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>Metcalf\u2019s father, Jeff, and the district attorney denied that the proceedings had anything to do with race. The arrest report does not mention race as a contributing factor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Jeff Metcalf also previously denounced a protest that erupted a couple weeks after the stabbing, held by the group \u201cProtect White Americans.\u201d The group demanded that Anthony be returned to police custody before the trial. Metcalf accused the protesters, led by Capitol riot participant Jake Lang, as \u201crace baiters.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Protesters on both sides clashed outside of the courthouse during the proceedings.
